We Love Lisbon - Santo Antonio Festival

Santo Antonio Festival is all about Lisbon - and on its eve, the centre turns into a massive party. Coincidentally it was also the opening night of the World Cup, so our night started out at Praca de Commercio with a few friends, as we joined the crowd to cheer Brasil on. The crowd then spilled onto the streets of old Lisbon, where all the bars and home owners move their facilities on to the streets and you can get drinks and local favourite - smoked sardines barbequed and served in traditional bread. The streets are decorated with paper lanterns, colourful streamers and party goers dancing to local DJs set up on every corner.
The streets were packed with not only young party goers, but families, tourists and wise locals who were all enjoying the music, the food and the good vibes. With the amount of people, lack of light, cobbled stone streets and endless drinks around we were surprised that everything was in total control. There was no trouble and everyone was just enjoying the night and in high spirits till the early morning. It really is the craziest night in Lisbon and we loved being immersed in all the celebrations (even the smoke of all the sardines on the barbie!).

 Santo Antonio by day
We got to see the aftermath, and all the streamers on the streets by day! Then were taken around by our friend Pedro, who took us to the best places for the best views of Lisbon!
