The Experience
Rock in Rio, as the name suggests was born in Rio de Janeiro and is still one of Brazil's most influential festivals to this day. It expanded into Portugal and Spain (next year branching out for the first time to the US, with a festival in Vegas). We were super excited to come across the posters and learn that Rock in Rio Lisboa would be on while we were in Lisbon. The festival aims to bring all styles of music for a variety of audiences. The 2014 line-up spanned over 5 days, with names such as The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams, Steve Aoki, Linkin Park, Lorde and Ed Sheeran. We were drawn to the closing day / night with Justin Timberlake and Jessie J being the main acts.
Arriving at the venue we were blown away by the size of the festival, with numerous stages surrounding the main World Stage - the electro stage being a gigantic spider! Food stalls to rival any food market, VIP lounges, huge air mattresses for free-fall jumps, masses and masses of party goers of all ages, and even a flying fox directly over the main stage which gives you an aerial view of the acts and crowd. The Brazilian really do know how to put on a huge party!
