Our best friends were in town, and we decided to bring in 2015 by partying on a rooftop and viewing the infamous London fireworks. Our rooftop of choice was Madison Bar.
This venue sits above the modern One New Change Mall, elevating its guests to its rooftop terrain by a glass lift. The cold open air smacks us in the face as we exit the elevator, but that’s soon forgotten when we notice the stunning unrivalled close-up view of St Paul’s. The Cathedral literally radiates against the night sky and in the distance you see the city skyline and London Eye over the Thames. To the left we get a nice reminder its NYE as we notice the grand stature of The Shard beaming a 2015 neon sign. The view is remarkable.
Late December’s freezing winds soon bring us back to reality, as we hurriedly rushed off the viewing deck and into the warm bar. We were greeted by a mass of party goers, dance tunes, scantily clad women dancing on the bars with bear heads covering their faces.. interesting.
Luckily the bar itself has floor to ceiling windows that match the views from the open air platform, so later in the night we rested our louboutin feet from dancing and settled into their plush leather lounges to enjoy London’s Fireworks to countdown the year. The infamous fireworks left us a little unsatisfied – as beautiful as the views were, fireworks are meant to be seen close up, and the grand stature of St Pauls Cathedral belittled the fireworks show. The music choice turned to trance which is far from our liking, so we grabbed a complimentary breakfast croissant on the way out and ended our new 2015 morning, for we had to be up bright and early to start our day fresh to fly to Amsterdam for New Year’s Day!
